Cartografias Atlânticas [atlantic cartographies] challenges the map as an instrument of precise representation, pointing to the arbitrary – and performative – nature of the act of defining borders. The performance took place in Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point in the European continent. Issues of racial and national identity underscore the act, as a Brazilian black man attempts to draw a map of the Atlantic Ocean whilte whithin it.
Cartografias Atlânticas was produced as part of a larger project called Mapa do Oceano, in collaboration with Abigail Smithson as the No Look Pass collective.
